The Japanese Onsen Inn

Japanese people love to use the traditional bathtub. There are even Japanese-style inns with large open-air bathtubs and these bathtubs are called “rotemburo”. In a rotemburo, you will be able to indulge yourself in a natural and garden-like atmosphere.

There are rules for these public bathtubs that foreigners may find hard to understand. Please follow these rules while enjoying the hot spring so that you can have a great time studying with us.

  • The simple rules are written below.
  • You must shower yourself before entering the bathtub.
  • Wash yourself on the draining floor before getting in the bathtub.
  • Please don’t swim in the bath.
  • Be sure not to put your towel in the bath.
  • You cannot consume alcohol before entering Onsen.
  • Putting your head underwater in the bathtub is prohibited.
  • Please dry off before entering the changing room.
  • Swimwear is prohibited in the Onsen.
