  • How do you feel about the “Gasshuku Menkyo”?
  • A. It was really fun. I always wanted to get my license since entering vocational college. But I didn’t know how to get a driver’s license in Japan. My friends didn’t know either, and even if I searched online, all the information was full of Chinese characters and I couldn’t understand much of it. It was helpful when the college held a briefing telling us all about it.

(We are also holding a briefing session for Gasshuku Menkyo at a vocational school. If you would like to join one, please inform the school’s teacher and contact us at 022-226-7371)

  • How were the classes at the driving school?
  • The first three to four days were challenging. The terms used during classes for academics were specialized terms I didn’t see in my daily life. It was hard to remember them all.

  • So did you have a really hard time studying for the academics?
  • I could read what was written in the textbooks as they had the readings for the Chinese characters. However, it took time to actually understand what it said. It was hard to understand everything that the teacher was saying during class. But there were individual extra classes provided for international students after all the classes finished at the end of the day, and they helped me understand well because I could ask questions directly.

  • Did you study every day after returning to your hotel?
  • I studied every day for about 2 to 3 hours for my temporary license written test.

  • How was the actual driving?
  • Driving was fun and I didn’t find anything difficult. I wasn’t worried about anything regarding the actual driving from before attending the “Gasshuku Menkyo.”

  • What's your impression of the instructors at the driving school?
  • All the instructors were nice and kind. I also made new Japanese friends who were attending the “Gasshuku Menkyo.” They were all so nice and we got along well.

  • How was the hot spring at the hotel?
  • The hot spring was very nice. I was excited about it before getting there.

  • How was your two weeks at the “Gasshuku Menkyo”?
  • The best thing about attending the “Gasshuku Menkyo” was that I was able to concentrate on studying for the license, and I didn’t need to work part time. I may not have passed the temporary license written test if I was studying and working part time at the same time, attending a normal driving school. I was off from my part-time job while I was at “Gasshuku Menkyo” so didn’t have any income. But the “Gasshuku Menkyo” was about 100,000 yen cheaper than the normal “tsugaku menkyo,” so I don’t think having time off work made much of a difference.

  • Finally, do you have any advice for international students attending the “Gasshuku Menkyo”?
  • The most challenging part was the temporary license written test. But there are international students who passed the test on their first try, so I’d like everyone to study before attending the “Gasshuku Menkyo” and try to pass the test on their first try.
